RHODIA, the leading Silica supplier to the Tire Industry
Rhodia Silica Systems offers a large range of amorphous precipitated silicas to the tire industry.
Tire rolling resistance has a significant impact on vehicle fuel consumption and related emissions. By partially substituting carbon black by silica as a filler in tire tread, it is possible to reduce tire rolling resistance. Energy-efficient tires lead to a decrease in fuel consumption and hence save energy:
•
25% less rolling resistance equates to a saving of up to 5% in fuel and related vehicle emissions |

RHODIA, the inventor of Highly Dispersible and Micropearl Silicas
Our research and development scientists were the first to create highly dispersible silicas (HDS). A sustained commitment to Research and Development enables us to continually reinforce our product range and thus follow the ever changing needs of the market.
Rhodia’s Highly Dispersible Silicas (HDS) confer low rolling-resistance and high wet-grip without adversely affecting overall tire performance.
This is graphically illustrated in the chart below where carbon black (N300 series) is compared to conventional silica and Highly Dispersible Silica (with medium surface area); the higher the index the better the performance. |

Micropearl Silica: the reference for processing efficiency and dispersibility
Created by Rhodia, Micropearl silica is a dust-free, free-flowing silica which demonstrates outstanding processability.
High dispersion within the rubber matrix makes for easy processing whilst bringing excellent reinforcing properties. Micropearl silica greatly facilitates mixing and improves extrusion behavior (speed, profile aspect…)
Furthermore, the relatively high density of Micropearl silica and its non-dusting properties greatly facilitate transport and safe handling. |

The most complete range for the Tire Industry
Thanks to its world-class product range, Rhodia Silcea supplies on a global basis all the major tire manufacturers.
From granulates to micropearls, Rhodia offers a complete range of Highly Dispersible Silicas. Tire makers can therefore choose the product with the characteristics (specific surface, dispersibility, etc.) best adapted to their formulation needs. In this way the tire maker can ensure usage performance (processing, grip, rolling resistance and wear) conforms to specification requirements. |
