Our research and development scientists were the first to create highly dispersible silicas (HDS), an innovation that has proven to be a revolutionary boost for our tire industry customers.

Rhodia Silcea / Silica Systems is the global leader in High Performance Silicas and inventor of the Highly Dispersible Silicas and the Micro-Pearl Silicas.

Our Micropearl HDS enables a large quantity of silica to be incorporated into basic synthetic rubber tire formulations. Using two specific processes (the precipitation process and Micropearl drying process), we offer optimum dispersability into the rubber compound.

Our discovery of highly dispersible silicas (HDS) has led to a fuel-saving tire, which is becoming more prevalent in the industry. When used to replace carbon black in the tire tread, our precipitated silica provides improved fuel economy by reducing rolling resistance, a major issue with rising fuel costs globally.

Rhodia highly dispersible silicas (HDS) can be used throughout the various parts of the tire, including :

  • Location - Properties Improved
  • Inner liner - air impermeability, adhesion
  • Belt compound - adhesion
  • Sidewall - tear resistance, flex resistance
  • Main tread - lower rolling resistance, traction, wear
  • Under tread - rolling resistance

When it comes to improved tire performance and tread life, our line of precipitated silicas, when dispersed as aggregates in the rubber mixture, strengthens the mechanical properties of all types of tires.
